Thought I might just make a post of all the things that are mostly asked over and over again in the forums by people who are new to the software.
1. The search function on the forumsYou can see a "
search" button in the top of this page.
(Picture) This will help you find what you need fast and you won't need to post another topic about the thing that has been already asked a thousand times. Note that the search only shows topics newer 1 week by default. You can change this easily from the drop bar.
(Picture) The search might not accept some small terms like "Moo" or "Mac", so try to specify your question a bit more.
There's also a FAQ link in the top of the page, it might have the answer you're looking for.
Frequently Asked Questions 2. Updates and extensionsA lot of people ask where to find extensions and updates for MMF 2 (Multimedia Fusion) or TGF 2 (The Games Factory). There's a sidebar on the forums that gives you lots of good quick links.
(Picture) When you start using MMF 2 or TGF 2, the first thing you should do is to download the updates and Bonus packs from the sidebar:
MMF 2 Standard version latest stable update (build 247) MMF 2 Developer version latest stable update (build 247) And the extension packs for MMF2:
Bonus Pack 1 Bonus Pack 2 z33z Extension Pack LIJI Extension Pack And updates for TGF 2:
TGF 2 latest stable update (build 247) If those packs won't have the extension you needed, then you can check the
Neatwares extension list .
If you can't get the extension from there, you can use the
Fusion Updater program to get the extensions. Note that the Fusion Updater does
NOT download examples for the extensions if there are any (with version 1.5.0 or less).
3. Java, HWA and Vitalize! 4Clickteam has been very nice and recently released beta versions for Java and HWA (Harware Acceleration) builds. They have their own forums for related questions:
HWA Beta Java Runtime Beta Note that both of the builds are on beta stage and should not be used in any projects that are important to you, as the betas might not function properly.
CT has also released Vitalize! 4, which lets you make your MMF 2 / TGF 2 games playable in an internet browser. You can find information about Vitalize! 4 here:
Technical Support for Vitalize 4. Tutorials for beginnersYou might be a bit lost with the software if you're a beginner, but don't worry. There are a lot of tutorials made by Clickteam and other people in here:
Tutorials Note that some of them might not work with The Games Factory.
5. Developing online games There have been a lot of questions about how you can make online games with MMF 2 / TGF 2. While it certainly is possible, it won't be very easy. If you are new to Clickteams software, I recommend you play around and try to create some smaller projects before you dive into online programming. If you think you can handle it, there's a good tutorial by Jeff that lets you create a chatroom:
Jeff's tutorial Once you understand how the system works, you should be able to play around with it and learn how to create a small online game. Don't go for anything big like an MMORPG, because the chances are you won't finish it ever and have just wasted a lot of time for nothing. Try creating simple turn-based online games first and then move on.
If you're not in hurry with your online game, you should wait for the OINC extension instead of using MooClick. It should be more stable than MooClick, but I'm not an expert in this area so maybe someone else will explain better.
6. Other useful linksAs I said, the sidebar in the forums has lots of good links you should check out. If you feel like you want to ask something and you haven't found an answer for it after checking everything I mentioned in this post, then go ahead and create a new topic. Just remember the rules of the forum.
Many users are happy to help you out, and we have a nice chat room (Made in MMF 2 Developer by the way!) where you can aske questions and talk with other users.
Gwerdy Chat for Clickteam The chat room works with your account for this forum, so insert in your account name and password and you're all set.
There. I think that's the most important things.
