MMF2 and Vista

MMF2 works fine on Vista, except for the automatic update feature in the current version, but there are rules to follow to avoid possible issues with the installers. More info :
MMF2 Installer
You should not have any problem with the installer of MMF2, if you let Vista run it as administrator and don't uncheck the "Launch MMF2" option in the end screen.
If you have any issue :
- If for any reason Vista doesn't run automatically runs the installer as administrator, the installer will report it cannot install files to the Program Files directory. In this case, exit it, right click setup.exe on the MMF2 CD and select Run as Administrator.
- If, for any reason, the program compatibility assistant says it might not have correctly installer, just ignore this message.
- If, for any reason, you have unselected the "Launch MMF2" option in the end screen of the installer, then the MFA extension won't be correctly associated with MMF2 and some extension installers might not detect the install directory of MMF2. To fix this issue, just right click the MMF2 shortcut on the desktop or in the Start menu, select "Run as administrator", wait for MMF2 to appear and then exit it.
Automatic update
The Automatic update feature doesn't work with the current build of MMF2 (244) when MMF2 is run without elevated rights.
To make it to work, run MMF2 as administrator, answer Yes if MMF2 asks you if you want to install the patch, or click the Check for Update option in the Help menu, install the patch and then exit MMF2 and relaunch it.
This issue should be fixed in the build 245.
Update install program
EDIT: patch programs fully compatible with Vista have been re-uploaded today. If you want to install on Vista a patch that you have downloaded previously, right click it and select "Run as administrator".
Extension Pack Installers
We are going to release an update for the 3 extensions packs, to force the installers to run with elevated rights. Until then, if no shield is displayed in their icon, just right-click them and select "Run as administrator".
Installers of other extensions
Extension developers who use Install Creator should rebuild their installer with the latest build of Install Creator (#29) (this build contains an option to force Vista to run the installer with elevated rights - it's ON by default, you do not need to modify it, just loads your installer settings and rebuild it).

I have a question about Vista and the applications we create using MMF2. I still have XP, but some people wanting my applications are using Vista, and they are reporting some weird bugs. How do we go about reporting these issues, since it could be Vista, or something else...?
thanks.

post them here, it is most probably vista and all the useless security features, I tried getting the longhorn server beta from ms`s site but it kept failing all the time, so I had to get it from a torrent and what a dissapointment, I have XP SP2 running in a virtual PC window and it runs great, blue screen comes up a bit but it runs fast... longhorn SERVER takes 8GB (compared to 800MB server 03) and it bearly works, extremely slow. It is a beta but personally I think MS has now made the biggest mistake ever... windows 1.0 was $99! why is vista over £500 and you have to laugh at them spending billions on china and only selling 254 legimate copies, LOL!

It is slow and large because it's beta. I had the vista public beta for a while, and it was the same. It's basically built in debug mode so that they can get more information when a crash happens (and with beta stuff it IS "when", that's the whole point). The release version is much better.

I use Vista release version now, with no problem. I didn't experience these problems when using MMF2 or installing any extensions. (I may have done this after this post.)

I am running the Developer version with the 246beta version.
This has been happening so I just got around to reporting the message Vista gives me. I'm not sure I would call it an error even.
Anyway, on starting up MMF2 I get a message that: "The running program is not compatibile with certain Windows visal elements. Display mode is set to Window Vista Basic. "
After ending MMF2 the display is changed back to Areo.
This does not happen with any other programs on my system only MMF2.

Yes, this problem was reported some time ago. I think it might be due to QuickTime (I can't test it right now). Can you rename kcqtw3.mfx to kcqtw3.xxx in the Extensions folder and restart MMF2 to see if this fixes the problem?

I am trying to install MMF2 onto my UMPC that runs Vista. Unfortunately, it throws up an "Internal Error" message just when it should start copying files and installs nothing. However, after that the installer still prompts me if I want to run MMF2
What can be done about it? I'm installing from a flash disk because I have no CD-ROM there, can this be the reason?

I have an application in which I have dynamic, clickable interactive objects over a video that is playing. The only way I've known to make that work was to make a quick backdrop with RGB color 16,0,16 and to then "hide" video, which would continue to show only over that color, yet allow buttons, objects and mouse zones to be active on top of it. For this group's information, that solution appears to no longer be viable when the application is run on Vista OS machines. I will be searching for a new solution for my application and appreciate any suggestions to try. v/r, Les (MMF Dev2, WMV videos using DirectShow object)

Running the MMF2 Dev demo on Vista, I've come across a couple of bugs. Thought I'd mention them.
When dragging the properties window (or any similar window) in to its own floating box, the title in the blue header bar is half hidden behind the Grey tool panel - it doesn't cause any real problems, but it's irritating. I also have problems selecting layers in the layer manager - if I select one layer (as normal, it highlights in blue), then click on another - they all remain blue. Selecting layers then becomes difficult, they just won't change when trying to select them.
The bugs haven't put me off buying it, but the price has! Oh stuff it! What's £229 anyway... wipes dust from credit card.

The demo is an old build with less bug fixes.

I guess this has more to do with Vista than MMF2, but sometimes when I run my application from MMF2 and do some (right-)clicking inside the app window, the app freezes completely. When I click on the window header/drag the window a bit, then the app comes alive again! The same problem has been evident in standa-alone exes. Any ideas about this problem?

Are you running build 247? and can you upload an example application so people can take a look and see if they can replicate it.

Re-download it, it has been updated to the latest build (247) in December. The bugs haven't put me off buying it, but the price has! Oh stuff it! What's £229 anyway... wipes dust from credit card.
The standard version of MMF2 is £70 (I think), if you can't afford the Developer version.

Well try buying MS VC++ .net 2003, try well over £2290, or darkbasic for £99 which (Correct me) requires a whole array of runtimes to be installed, most of which are crap and useless, places an annoying advert, is forced to 50fps maximum, you have to pay royalties to release anything that isn't released as free (and thats over £2000 per game / application you release) and is generally the most unstable, ugliest engine to build on that I could think of, you even have to pay more for a 3D editor because they made a special format that only the program they made can export to (great way of making money eh?) and they even charge you for extra, you don't get any graphics with it, you can buy them for an extremely high premium rate if you want, and from what I heard; the development team takes a few days to reply to your email, thats if your email even gets to them past the moderator people that will send you an obvesly predefined message telling you basically how you got ripped off and they don't care. Now compare that to CT, I think you'll find that apart from MMF2 being cheaper, it outrates it by far

The conditions for testing if a key is pressed don't work.
I'm running Vista 64-bit with SP1.

Its working fine here -- do you have a quick example you can upload so we can check it out. Perhaps it has something to do with Vista 64 bit but no one else has reported it and I know some guys around here use it.
(I am on Vista 32 bit)

Ok, this is just wierd. I opened a new application to try and recreate the problem, and it worked fine. Then I went back to the other application that was having problems, and it didn't work any more. I don't know what it is. However, I was looking at the examples made by Jaffob, and the "Screen Playground" example didn't work either (the parts having to do with pressing the arrow keys), so I guess you could look into that example.

Well I don't know if this has been reported before but a friend of mine was trying to play a game I was making and it seems like it stops responding seemingly at random if he presses CTRL. I thought it might of had to do with sounds being playing from files but I'm not sure, I'm not at his house to see what's going on and I don't have Vista.

So would I go ahead and export as a screensaver then manually rename it as an exe? Or would it just be the same thing to export as an exe in the first place?
